
Enhancing Multinational Collaboration in Aviation Research and Innovation
In support of strengthening European and international cooperation in aviation research, the Signatories of the AREANA Synergy Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Group are pleased to announce the launch of the International JoinED Call 2025/26.
This joint initiative is co-organised and co-funded by seven national and regional funding organisations from five European countries: Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, and the United Kingdom.
Objective of the JoinED Call
The JoinED Call 2025/26 aims to support transnational research and innovation projects that contribute to a climate-neutral, competitive, safe, and resource-efficient aviation sector.
The call invites proposals in the following thematic areas:
- Alternative, climate-neutral drive technologies (open to all energy sources)
- Reduction of energy demand in aviation operations
- Enhanced competitiveness, performance, and operational efficiency
- Safety improvements, resource efficiency, and ecological footprint reduction
Participation is subject to national/regional funding rules. Proposals must meet the criteria of at least two participating countries.
Eligibility & Timeline
Projects funded under the JoinED Call must start after 15 October 2025, with preliminary national/regional funding decisions issued by 31 October 2026. Please note that national/regional deadlines and requirements may vary. Applicants must refer to their respective national procedures for full details.

Information Event – Resources Now Available
An info Event was organized on the 27th of November, 2025, and brought together over 240 participants from 11 countries, reinforcing the importance of multinational collaboration in aviation research.
Organised under the umbrella of the AREANA Synergies MoU Group, the event provided:

- National application insights from funding agencies
- Guidance on building cross-border research consortia
- A live Q&A session with experts from participating funding bodies

A Coordinated European Approach to Aviation R&I
The International JoinED Call 2025/26 is a strategic outcome of the AREANA Synergy MoU, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthen cooperation among national funding programmes. It supports the goals of the European Research Area (ERA) and contributes to the EU’s climate objectives and technological sovereignty in aviation.
This call encourages cross-sector and cross-border collaboration, involving research institutions, industry, SMEs, and other stakeholders active in the field of aviation R&I.
