The AREANA project is set to play a key role in the major upcoming Aerodays 2025, Europe’s leading event for aviation research and innovation, taking place in Warsaw, 7-9th of May.
With a strong focus on fostering alignment across European Union initiatives, AREANA will step into the spotlight as a key contributor to the event’s pivotal session: “Competitiveness by Synergies: Beyond the Buzzwords. Connecting Aviation Research in Europe.”
This high-level session, which promises to gather leading minds from across the aviation research landscape, will be chaired by Hartwig Hagena, AREANA Work Package 1 Leader and senior representative from DLR. It will mark a pivotal moment for AREANA, as the project aims to amplify its role as a central enabler of collaboration across European research programs and national initiatives.
The session will feature a distinguished panel:
- Ron van Manen, Director Project Office at Luchtvaart in Transitie
- Agnieszka Byrt, Master Planning Expert at SESAR Joint Undertaking
- Gabriel Mialocq, Head of Sector Aviation and Waterborne Research and Innovation at CINEA
- Daniele Violato, Head of Synergies at Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking
Following these four concise presentations, a panel discussion will offer insights into how the different cooperation models can complement each other and collectively strengthen Europe’s leadership in sustainable, innovative aviation.
Hartwig Hagena, who will moderate this session, sums up its importance: “There are so many highly motivated and well-trained people in European aviation. We must create the conditions that allow these people to connect and work together for a successful Europe.”
For AREANA, this session will represent a strategic opportunity to demonstrate its position as a facilitator of synergies — connecting players from the European, national, and regional levels in a coherent ecosystem. By engaging directly with key institutional stakeholders, AREANA aims to solidify its contributions to shaping a more integrated, efficient, and competitive aviation research landscape in Europe.
As Europe advances toward its climate neutrality and innovation goals, AREANA’s WP1 presence at Aerodays 2025 will reinforce its role as a catalyst for smarter and more impactful aviation research cooperation. The conversations and commitments emerging from these sessions will shape the framework for future synergistic efforts and help position European aviation at the forefront of global competitiveness and sustainability.
